"The top three mistakes that I see men make in divorce.

I think the number one mistake is that they hire an attorney that professes to be an attorney for men's rights or a proponent of men. I think that's a good marketing strategy, except you remove half of the population that's getting a divorce, the fairer sex. But what does that really mean? I'm a men's rights attorney. Well, if you're an attorney who does family law at a high level or if you're moderately competent, you have to be advocating for the rights of your client regardless of their gender. So that's a mistake. There's nothing special there.

Number two would be maybe they act too much like a guy. So if you have a new girlfriend, try to keep that a little bit under wraps. Don't bring the new girlfriend to the courthouse when there's a contested proceeding, maybe particularly a custody proceeding. Maybe when there's allegations from your ex-wife that your children don't like the new girlfriend or fiance, even worse. Don't do that.

Number three is think about the fact that regardless of whether or not there's any bias, gender bias, and there shouldn't be, there's always something to do with a man that has a tone, that has a certain way of delivering his message to a female. Is it mansplaining? Is it too harsh? Will it be perceived by maybe a female bench officer as being a little bit too rough? Again, I think communication should be transparent and direct. And if you do that, you're not bullshitting anybody, you're not being hostile to anybody, and you should generally have a good relationship and certainly good discourse with your ex."
