“What is a conservatorship and how do you get one? Well a conservatorship is a determination by the court that an adult is unfit to make their own decisions and they need someone else to help them make those decisions.

A lot of people have heard of the “Free Britney Act” and Britney Spears’s conservatorship and that was an unfortunate situation, but conservatorships can be extremely helpful to those who do need them – specifically those in the special needs community who have been helped by their parents their entire lives. Once they turn 18, that help no longer continues unless a limited conservatorship is put in place.

Additionally individuals who have had Alzheimer’s, dementia, succumb to a stroke – these individuals can benefit from a conservatorship as well if the court determines that they are unfit to make their own decisions. In order to get a conservatorship you should contact an attorney or determine if there’s a conservatorship clinic in your county that could help you do this on your own.”
